Children with a retained Spinal Galant reflex tend to fidget and need to move all the time, and are likely to be bed-wetters and bothered by clothing tags. They tend to wear loose clothes around the hips and waist.  They can have poor concentration and short-term memory, as well as hip rotation to one side when walking. A retained spinal galant reflex on one side of the body can cause scoliosis (Blomberg & Dempsey, 2011).

A retained Spinal Perez can delay development of the crerebrospinal fluid pumping mechanism and hinder development of mental processing speed, memory, and thinking,  In addition, there may be delay n development of the pineal gland.  One may exhibit decreased muscle tone, strength, and coordination when the reflex is retained.  The effects this reflex has on behavior and emotional stability include fears and phobias, especially not liking when someone is standing behind you.  It also include lack of impulse control, feeling of inadequacy, bedwetting, ADD/ADHD, hyperactivity, decreased concentration, and speech disorders. (Brandes, 2012)

Here are two basic, yet profound exercises to help with the Spinal Reflexes.
Actively Sliding on Back
Spinal Walk

Additional activities to integrate

Snow angles.  If they can do these lying on different textures, even better.   Perform them slowly to allow the brain a chance to feel where the body is.  When the movement is automatic, you can mix it up by raising arms with the legs straight down;  move right arm and leg up and then the opposite side; or move the right arm and left leg, left arm and right leg - this will also help with bilateral integration.

Beanbag on hip.  In a table top position, place a small bean bag on one of the hips.  Have the child look over his shoulder to see the bean bag and move the hip towards the head, squeezing the waist and exhaling for 7 seconds.  Do this about 6 times on each side.  The slower the movements, the better.
